The Fight

"After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said to fulfill the Scripture, "I thirst." A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, "It is finished," and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." -John 19:28-30

When Jesus cried, "It is finished." He was not ending the fight only the end of defeat!

I heard Pastor Mark Driscoll ask the questions:

Are you gonna fight? Are you gonna fight to the glory of God?

The answer to the first question is YES. We all fight. Whether it be with our wife, our friends, our family, or whomever. We are going to fight. It happens. It's life.

The second question is: Are you gonna fight to the glory of God? This question is answered with even more questions...
Are you gonna fight with respect? Are you gonna fight with rules? Are you gonna fight to resolution? Does Jesus get to be the referee?

I like looking at my faith in Jesus as being an active faith, not a faith that just sits around passively watching the world go by and never fighting for anything or anyone. I'm definitely not endorsing conflicts or anything, I'm just bringing up the point that if and when we fight we should be doing it to the glory of God. That sounds contradictory but it's not. Jesus fought* with the religious leaders all the time...to the glory of God! (Luke 6)

*It wasn't really fighting. It was more of Jesus just being right!
